What no one told me about a miscarriage...

Question

I've been taking Cytotec at home for 48 hours now. An hour after my last tablet I stood up and passed the birth sac, placenta and baby. I had a pad so was able to see the whole thing. I honestly didn't expect to see an intact "anything" during this ordeal. No one warned me!

What has happened to you while miscarrying or afterwards, that you didn't expect or no one warned you about?!

That for a twin missed miscarriage Cytotec more than likely wouldn't work and that I'd still need the DnC, could have saved myself almost a week of mental and physical torture.

I also took cytotec for a missed miscarriage and I felt similarly...like I was just sent home to do this without instructions or really what to expect. I have a background in human biology so I can read and understand medical info but because forcing a miscarriage is an "off label" use for cytotec there is very little "real" info on that use. I had to rely on forums like this and the anecdotes of other women to guess at what is "normal." It's made me feel very disappointed in the medical system and a doctor I always very much liked and trusted. I had complications that my doctor dismissed and ended up going someplace else that listened to me and helped me. I'm not sure what I'll do for care going forward.

This is what I hate about Drs. I went through my first miscarriage in November and I went to 2 different ERs and my OB and no one would give me advice or what to expect they just said oh ok you should pass the sack it happens to 1/4. Like give me some damn instructions or what to expect! They made it seem like I'd have a period NO I had full blown labor pains I was laying on my bathroom floor screaming in pain until the baby came out.

I miscarried naturally and passed the entire sac intact (about the size of an Easter egg) in the shower 30 minutes before I was scheduled to arrive at the surgery center for my d&c. We had to put everything in a bag and take it to the surgery center so my doctor could look at it 😔 it was so hard, and I am so beyond thankful for my husband for handling everything. I know it was hard for him. Now almost 4 weeks later, I am happy it happened that way, even if it was scary to see. My body also healed very quickly with no retained tissue. I'm sorry you are dealing with this, I promise it does begin to get better ❤️

I'm sorry you had to go through that. I took cytotec at 9 weeks for a miscarriage that stopped growing at 6 weeks. I had copious amount of blood and tissue come out, but nothing that was recognizable. I think it just depends how far along you were.
