When does everyone start pumping???

I'm 3 days pp and my milk came in. My baby isn't nursing enough for relief of engorgement!!! When do I start pumping? Is it too soon? I can still breastfeed but I need some relief asap! I don't want to mess up my milk supply

You could have started pumping the moment he was born for stimulation. I'm on day 6 post partum and currently get about 1 oz each session. I've been pumping when baby eats. I give her breastmilk and then supplement formula. Her appetite is too much for me to produce, but the more you pump and breastfeed the more you get!

I'd suggest pumping and freezing as much as you can now. I wished I would have when my milk came in.

After a couple of weeks your body will adjust to make what baby needs. It is a lot at first but it will even out! If it's really uncomfortable I would just pump after the baby eats until you get relief.

A lot of your engorgement now is extra blood, not milk. Pumping now can make your nipples sore. I'd wait a week or two.

I started pumping right away too to relieve the engorgement and might as well start your freezer stash!

Pump now and any opportunity you can. I waited days after my baby was born when I was so engorged  and wish I hadn't of. Not only could I have built up a little supply but maybe my milk production would have been better.
