Is induction the norm for twins?

Today my doctor told me that if I make it that long, they'll induce me at 38 weeks. Is this the norm? What's the medical reasoning behind it?

I know the chance of me getting to 40 weeks is rare with twins, but why not even try?

My doc won't even let me go to 38 weeks, 37 is the absolute longest due to the high risk involved in carrying them longer. If my ultrasound at 36 weeks shows both babies weighing 5 pounds or more he will induce at 36 weeks. Good luck to u!

Twins are considered full term at 38 weeks. If you keep them in until 40 or so the risk complications get higher such as still birth. It's kind of like when a women is with 1 baby and the doctor will induce her soon after 40 weeks if she isn't in labor yet, even though the baby could possibly go until 50 or more weeks.

I was told the same! There can be a higher chance of blood pressure problems or other complications if they wait past 38 weeks.
