For all the moms who want to breastfeed!

Maria
I know there are moms out there that will say breastfeeding was awesome from the beginning, that it never hurt, and if you're doing it right or if baby is "latching on properly it shouldn't hurt"! Hey that's awesome ,and I'm honestly happy it went that way for you😊..but as a mom of 4,and as a mom who has breastfed all of them for a year and soon will be breastfeeding baby number 5 I will say that's not the case for everyone. My kids latch on properly, and the first day or so is easy for me to deal with. There isn't any milk to look for either ladies FYI it's just colostrum that comes first,so don't get scared if so and so got her milk to come on the first day and yours didn't(comparing never helps). I feed on demand and I know I'm doing it right because I've always had the lactation specialist see me,but they leave fast when they see I know what I am doing already. Anyway as the days go by I get sore,it hurts,my nipples always crack, and they bleed,it's gross, and it's just painful period! I do it because I know it will get easier, and for me it's worth it. No matter what for some of us it just hurts until your nipples get use to it,and toughen up. There's only a really small percentage of women who can't physically breastfeed, and if you have medical reasons,if you're on meds,if you choose to bottle feed from the beginning ladies I am not talking to you,I am not shamming you, everyone has their reasons why they won't or like I said physically can't that is fine too 😊. With that being said this post is for the ones that want to and will be in pain even after the baby latches on properly. You will have to ride it out if you really want to do it ladies, but if you decide in the end it's not for you that's fine as well. Just know those first 2-3 weeks will be rough, and the best advice I can give you is don't give up if you really want to do it,and breastfeed on demand. Your body only makes what the baby needs, and your baby eats when they need to so if you start supplementing from the beginning because you're in pain I will tell you that your body will definitely not be making what the baby needs for every feeding. You're essentially teaching your body what it needs to make when you feed on demand. Every time your baby has a growth spurt and breastfeeds more often it helps your body know the baby needs more milk, and it will start making more in a few days or weeks(supply and demand right?😉). So if you're supplementing your body doesn't know the baby needs more, and won't make it. I know other moms or lactation specialist will say that you can supplement, and pump so the body does eventually make more milk. That is helpful advice, and for some ladies it works 😄! For some it doesn't,and even the fanciest pump will not be as efficient at getting your milk to come in like your baby would,so this is where you decide to keep going and bare the pain or stop. This is my advice and opinion,I know different things work for different ladies. This is for the ones that want to exclusively breastfeed, but one more time I will say if this doesn't work for you do what does😊. Don't obssese, and enjoy your baby!! ❤️
