To pap smear or not to pap smear?

So yesterday i went on a swab test as my doctor calls it, just to check a few things. Anyway, they used the same things as they do with a pap smear. It honestly wasnt bad at all, it stung/hurt a little because she was hitting my cervix but other than that it was fine, maybe a little uncomfortable when she opened the speculum and then it tickled when she swabbed me. Ive finally convinced my doctor to order me a pap smear because even though i havent been sexually active for two years, im 23 so i should have started getting them done 2yrs ago according to medical recommendations. I have been wanting to start getting them done because i have been really concerned. My grandmother (from my mothers side) had her reproductive organs taken out after she had my mother because she had gotten cancer, though i dont know on what as im not allowed to ask her because apparently it will worry her and she has heart issues so you know!. I dont really care because i want to protect myself and my future daughters. My mother on the otherhand has stopped getting the test done years ago, whilst i was still a teenager, at age 16 i was telling her that she has to go and she refused. So i stopped telling her to go, its not my responsibility. After the test i had yesterday i dont see why its so bad and why she wont get it done. I have my first pap smear booked for tomorrow and i cant wait!, its better to be in control than to just be hit with unwanted and unexpected news that isnt good. I want to know your opinion and experience with this test. Thanks ladies :)
