Hair dye while pregnant?

Before you give me grief, I didn't know I was pregnant when I did this. 
Right before I found out I was pregnant, I had tried to dye my hair a dark brown over very light blonde. Simple enough right? I've done it before and the colour has always worked. Well it turned out a super light ash brown colour that was very close to blonde, the dye didn't take. Is it actually possible this was because I was pregnant? I've heard women say it's because of the hormones? Has this happened to you?

Wouldn't the fact that it was light actually take the colour more? That's just my experience with hair dye though!

I used to be the receptionist in a salon, and I heard the stylists say again and again to customers that they should tell them if they were pregnant cause the change in hormones would change how the color took to/ looked in their hair.

When you're pregnant your hair can definitely react differently to dye. My scalp was much more sensitive.

Lightened hair is porous and doesn't take color well. It should be filled first and then colored. It turns ashy because lightened hair lacks red/orange pigment and all it has to grab onto is the green undertones. If you color it again I would use a red or copper based brown and that should take much better.

I've been a hairstylist for almost 20 years. Your problem is most likely due to your hair being porous from previous lightening. It's not a big problem though. Sometimes you need to "fill" it with extra pigment. The ashyness comes from not having a balance of primary colors in your hair.
So use clarifying shampoo a couple times to get rid of the ashyness and then dye it again with a golden brown. If it's not dark enough do it again right away and then condition

I dye my hair every month at my stylist, we make different shades of ombre, so use dark and light dye and during my whole pregnancy (I'm almost 28 weeks) there wasn't any accident with my hair, even though my hormones are roller-coaster even before pregnancy. I dye my hair at periods, being on hormonal pills, while pregnant, and I think hormones don't do any reaction with your hair.

It could be BC your hair was light enough already. That it wouldn't actually turn out the dark brown color BC you have to take into Account the light hair to begin with. Orrrr it could be your hormones with pregnancy?
