Taking pill at the same time everyday??

I'm starting a progestin-only pill and do I have to take it at the absolute same time everyday? I read on here that a girl missed her's by only 3 hours and someone told her to skip that day and take it the next day. Is that really necessary and does anyone have any other tips for first time birth control users? (I'm personally not using it for the contraceptive part)
