Growth attenuation therapy...ethical or not?

kris
Have you heard of growth attenuation therapy? The practice is done to purposely stunt severely disabled children's growth and development in order to make it easier to care for them. Some simply take hormones to stunt their physical growth. Some even go as far as to perform hysterectomies  to prevent painful menstruation or remove breast nodules to stop breast tissue from growing. "When such dependents enter adolescence and adulthood, the doctors posited, the simple tasks of caring for them — dressing, toileting, bathing, holding and carrying — can become prohibitively difficult for parents. Arresting a child’s growth could benefit both child and parent. A smaller person who required no hoisting apparatuses would in all likelihood benefit from more attention and greater inclusion in family activities. And he or she would be more likely than someone fully grown and similarly impaired to be cared for in the home, rather than an institution."
What are your thoughts? Ethical or not?
