Does amoxicillin (infection medicine) give you a yeast infection while taking it? Or is it just me?

I took some amoxicillin before and it gave me a bad yeast infection. I'm wondering if it's just me or does it happen to all females. Do I need to tell my doctor about it? Does it mean I'm allergic to it?

Any antibiotic can mess up the "good bacteria" or normal flora of the vagina and cause a yeast infection. Talk to your doctor to get info on how to clear it up. Usually you can get a one time pill and it's gone.

This is why you drink TONS of water and clean yourself regularly. Never hold your pee for too long. Also, eat yogurt/drink cranberry juice. I've taken antibiotics so many times I can't even count them now and I've never had a problem. After you finish the course, take probiotics and you shouldn't experience yeast infections. My mom is a nurse and always got on my case whenever I took antibiotics, now I understand why.

Antibiotics kill good and bad bacteria. The good bacteria keeps your PH balance in check. When your PH goes out of whack the yeast can grow out of control. I got the worst ('raging' as my dr called it) yeast infection after taking a strong antibiotic. You need to replinish your good bacteria by consuming probiotics ASAP. I always recommend kefir!

No, any kind of antibiotic can cause yeast infections. Antibiotic throws off the healthy yeast, I get one almost everytime I'm on antibiotics and I ask my doctor to give me the pill to treat it everytime he gives me an antibiotic

It can with anyone. Antibiotics get rid of good and bad and with getting rid of the good can cause a yeast infection. Just next time they put you on any antibiotic, make sure to let them know you get yeast infections when taking them. They will give you Diflucan.
