Are changing tables a necessity for your nursery?

I need some insight! My mom is ordering our crib, glider, mattress, etc. today and I am not sure how "necessary" a changing table is. Please give me some advice on if you have used one with your previous children and if you really liked it or even used it like you thought you would! I just don't want to get one if we truly won't use it and being a first time mom, I'm clueless! 😭

We will be using a changing mat on top of a long dresser. I didn't want to spend extra money on such a specific piece of furniture, however, a specified changing area is 150% necessary for me. I cannot stand changing children on beds or floors. It just disgusts me for some reason.

I'm getting one simply because I wouldn't have anywhere to keep all the diapers, wipes, bath stuff, ect. I would hate to have to change him on my bed or floor all the time. I rather have a designated table for all that :) but I do think it's personal preference.

We had a changing table with both of our babies and we barely used them, especially not with the second. We are expecting number 3 in October and will only get a changing pad this time, since that us what we ended up using all over the house with the other ones.

If you do have a big bathroom, I did like having a changing table in there, because it's nice being able to get baby ready in the already warm bathroom after bath time.

It was helpful for me because I had a c section so in the beginning it was a good height for me to use. But this time we're just putting a pad on his dresser. Same thing :)

Honestly, we ended up using a mat or a towel on the floor more then the actually changing pad. We aren't even bothering to get one for our second baby.

My husband has back problems, so it brings the baby up higher than a dresser or off the floor. For us it's absolutely a necessity. Even if he didn't have back problems, it's definitely nice to have, though really any surface in your home CAN be a changing table. Just nice to have everything in one place
