First time mom: how do contractions feel like?

I'm 26 weeks and my best friend lost her mucous plug today and had contractions. Not sure how they feel like or how soon after you lose the plug should you expect to have the baby! Lol. I've heard 48 hours, a week, and two weeks.

Could be a week or two or even within hours. The mucous plug doesn't really determine a time frame other than you're getting closer to the end of pregnancy. Contractions are like a tightening feeling in your abdomen. It'll tighten then release on a regular schedule (every so many minutes). As time goes by, they will become closer together and stronger. When they're 4-5 minutes apart and don't stop from laying down or drinking water, it's time to go in. If they do go away or are not consistent, it is Braxton Hicks and they're only to prepare your body for the feeling of labor.

I've only noticeably lost my plug with one of my pregnancies. And 3 days later I had him.
