Best list of things you will need?

I'm only 28 weeks but I'm thinking I might need to start making sure we have everything we will need for the baby. Does anyone know where I can find the best lists of things we need at home for the baby and like what to pack and take to the hospital? If it's not obvious enough this is our first child and I'm lost on where to start.

Just thought I'd mention that not all hospitals will provide you with stuff, so it's worth asking your midwife/OB if there is anything in particular you should bring along. I'm in the UK where they don't provide anything, so I've had to pack a lot!

Despite being a FTM, we haven't got suckered into too many purchases. We have a crib, car seat, rocker and buggy as essentials, as well as the sheets for the crib. Several large muslins for swaddling and a stack of onesies/vests and bibs.

Couple of top tips I was given (though I'm sure if I read on, someone will have said them anyway)

1. Pack baby's outfits into ziplock baggies for the hospital so you have everything for a change in one go...and daddies can grab them quickly without forgetting anything.

2.Layer your crib sheets. A waterproof sheet, then a normal one, waterproof again then normal again. If there is a midnight Poonami or sick explosion, just take off the dirty top layer and put in the laundry hamper then put the clean baby back onto the clean second layer. You can about laundry and remaking beds in the morning and get back to your own bed more quickly.

3. If you are breastfeeding, have a basket you can tote around the house with you. Stock it with a water bottle, snacks, burp cloths/bibs, pacifier (if you're using one) nipple cream and breast pads. You could even include your book/kindle. Everything you think you'll need within arms reach whilst feeding the wee one.

2nd time mom here. 90% of the crap that is suggested just isn't necessary. For baby in your hospital bag:
Outfit to go home in
CARSEAT (they will not let you take your baby home without one) no extras on it like pads for the straps or toys. They'll tell you to take them off
Any special outfit for newborn pics (if you're going to do them at the hospital
Baby book (I kept mine on hand to have them put inked foot prints when
They did the birth certificate)
Boppy if you plan to breast feed

That's it. They provide diapers wipes blankeys etc.

At home I enjoyed having some soft thin and stretchy blankeys for swaddling, a swing and crib/cosleeper and extra sheets for it, clothes, size NB and size 1 diapers (you'll use size NB for like a week or two then size 1) 
Pacifiers 
Nipple cream
Changing pads
Diaper rash cream
Soft Little hats and hand covers so baby doesn't scratch his/her face
Lots of burp cloths!

That's about all. For the first 1-2 months there isn't a whole lot you really need. Everything else you can get as you go. You won't really use anything else. I basically kept a basket with diapers wipes a snack for me creams and extra pacifiers and such that I could carry around room to room. Made nursing a breeze

I would suggest looking on Pinterest. My husband and I are trying to just get the basics because we are having our shower after baby is born.
