Round ligament pain?

I've had sharp, stabbing pains in my right pelvic region twice now. The first time was walking into my doctor's office, and she said it was likely round ligament pain. It happened again yesterday when I was lounging on the couch, and it literally made me gasp because it hurt so bad. I read that the ligament pain was supposed to be more dull and achy, but I haven't actually talked to anyone who's felt it before. I didn't experience it with my first pregnancy. Are there any mamas out there who have experienced round ligament pain who can tell me if this is normal?
