Anyone else?

Question

Is anyone else bummed that they had to have an emergency c section? I always heard the horror stories, but never thought it'd happen to me. I can't help but think I did it wrong, and that without modern technology I wouldn't have my daughter here today.

It took me a while but I finally came to terms with it. It wasn't technically an emergency section simply because my ob talked to me and helped me decide to go ahead and do the surgery. But I am very happy that I made that decision because after laboring on pitocin for 14 hours and not dialating beyond 2 centimeters and her not dropping at all we realized during the surgery that she had wrapped the cord around not only her torso but also her neck. So while I was sad, terrified and full of what ifs I am happy my daughter arrived safely because had we continued to try naturally I might not have my daughter today.  It's a weird sort of back and forth emotionally.

Had an emergency csection with my son at 41 weeks when the doctor told me he was breech and my blood pressure rose too much. I had a hard recovery then. Had my daughter scheduled csection because Doctor wouldn't do a VBAC because of insurance reasons. Recovery the second time around was better off pain meds when I was in the hospital and walking the day after surgery. I often think about if things would have been different but the thing is both my babies are beautiful and healthy and I grew and gave birth to them either way. My husband told me our daughter is our last because he doesn't want me to have to go through that again. I wouldn't change anything for my kids.

My last pregnancy ended in an emergency c section at 30w2d. I had a placental abruption with massive internal bleeding with my twins. I went into shock, passed out, and they called a code. It was traumatizing. It took me three years to get over it and it resulted in ptsd and anxiety/panic attacks about my health. We finally decided to try again after consulting with an MFM and a new ob that I was very comfortable with. We just VBAC'd our fifth baby/first little girl and it was the easiest delivery ever. My water broke at 12pm and she was here by 2:35pm.

Take some time and let yourself heal. You are going through so much physically and emotionally. It will take a while for your body to heal and for you to grieve the birth you didn't get to have and accept what did happen. Hang in there and find someone to talk to whether it be your SO or a counselor. Lots of hugs!

Yup I had one at 36 weeks due to developing severe preeclampsia and HELLP. But ultimately it's what was best for baby boy and me. I lucked out because they almost put me under general for it and I was crushed I wouldn't get to see my boy when he was born but thankfully the anesthesiologist consulted with a colleague and decided it was safe to do a spinal. I planned an all natural birth but in the end I have a beautiful healthy baby boy and I'm doing great too. But it definitely was not what I had pictured for the birth of my first child. I didn't even get to labor or experience any of the normal birth is beginning moments.

Nope I'm just glad my baby girl is healthy.  Most women in my family have had c sections so I think I was prepared for it

My baby was breech and I had to schedule a C Section. It did really bum me out that I couldn't deliver her vaginally like my first daughter. I was also really worried about recovering from surgery and taking care of a newborn, but it's not as bad as I thought with lots of help from my SO.

Definitely. Technically I chose the c section before it became "emergency" but it would have ended that way. Its definitely hard to come to terms with on top of the recovery process itself....
