Should I go and see the doctor?

My period is always irregular and hardly ever on time. It lasts for a full 7 days and the cramps are hard to stand. I have heavy flow and have extra pain when I use a tampon. Pain relief usually does relieve some pain though. I was wondering if it was worth going to see a doctor about it as I would like to go on the pill to relieve some of the symptoms.
