Angry with my boyfriend!

So we've been living together for just about a year now. This week he is off pretty much the entire work week (Monday to Sunday). So I was like great give him a little project right? I literally had him paint this antique mirror I had bought and put a top coat on it. Nothing big. So obviously I said take your time. He started Monday and finished this afternoon so a day and a bit. He said tonight he wanted to do something special with me. I was like sounds great.

And then after that on my way home from work I got a call from my dad (who I haven't seen in like 2 months) who said he and mom were gonna be in the area and take me to dinner (they're like a 4 hr drive away)

I told my boyfriend and he freaked out saying he was the priority and that I couldn't go to dinner with my parents. He then said I need some air which for him is code for "I'm going to the bar"

I went out to dinner with my parents. Am I wrong? Thoughts

Edit: he refused to come with me. He said if I choose my parents he was going to the bar.
