Are unsuccessful abortions common?

A girl I went to highschool with told us a story about how she was supposed to be an abortion but it didn't work so I was just wondering if this is something that happens often or whether it just happens in developing countries?

Not too common actually. I had to research this lots in highschool. I forget the percentage. It was hard though because a lot of the research seemed slightly screwed by extremists on both sides.
