If you carry a gun have you ever needed to use it?

Question

Following another post in cc I saw comments about people 'needing' to carry a gun and for their protection. I'm just curious if anyone has ever actually used it in an everyday situation? Has anything happened and you've thought 'I'm so lucky I had my gun on me'? Or has carrying a gun got you into trouble?
This isn't meant to offend anyone, I'm genuinely interested and trying to get a better understanding because it's so unheard of in the uk. No judging anyone who has used a gun for whatever reason either 🙂

Some assbags tried to scope out the car my mom and I were in while it was dark. We had tented windows so I guess they either didn't see us or didn't care. As close as they were I bet it was the latter. She opened the door, pointed it at them and they ran off.

My sister took my to a aquarium (I was 12ish) and a disgusting guy was following me around for a unreasonably long time getting at close as possible. We were alone where we were when this guy tried to touch me my sister showed him what was in her purse. He left.

I carry one because, although rare, shit happens. I might hit a animal on the side of the road and need to end it's suffering (Which is my responsibility). My wife is trans and people go out of their way to hurt or threaten her often, one day they may not be bluffing. I'm a small female myself and if someone wants to hurt me they could.

Not on people yet, and I pray I never have to but I'll also never leave myself vulnerable.

As far as what I have used it for is I own a lot of property with cattle, we have bear, coyotes and mountain lions out here, my hand gun isn't powerful enough to kill either but enough to scare them and I have scared a mountain lion on multiple occasions.

We're at the point where we might actually kill it because it keeps coming back and I have a baby on the way, might try relocating it first

I'm also curious as to what kind of protection they'd use it for? Wouldn't you get charged for using it even if you have a permit for it?

We have a gun but we keep it at home in our room. Its in case anyone were to try and break in. Hopefully that never happens and the gun stays in the exact same spot for forever.. But it makes us feel better knowing we are protected. You never know.

Think about it this way. I live in a very dangerous area. Things HAVE happened to me before. Before I had a car, I walked home and a man almost tried to force me to get in his car. I ran all the way home after that. Several men have stalked me before. I've had men look at me through my window before while I was naked... Those are just a few examples. So if those people would have attempted to physically harm me, why should that be allowed, but some people are so against guns...

Not only that, but some people say that they could use another weapon like a knife. While that could be true... If someone breaks into your home ARMED, you're going to lose that battle. That other weapon is useless now, plus it requires you to actually approach a person.

Idk where some of y'all live, but it must be unbelievably safe for you to say that guns are ridiculous. I feel safe that my family has them... I'd never honestly want to have to use it, but it's for protection for us. We're not out to walk around and shoot a place up.

We have one in the house. It is in a closet unloaded, there is a loaded clip in a drawer in a separate room. Once I was home alone and heard someone downstairs, you best believe I grabbed that clip and loaded that gun before I went downstairs. My dad taught me how to use the gun and always told me to announce my presence and that I was armed before entering any room with it. My dad will always yell upstairs when he gets home so I know it's him and don't freak out. Turned out to be my grandpa who didn't realize I was home. But I was prepared to fire that gun had it been an intruder.

I have a permit, and I carry it only when I'm I'm going out without my husband. I need a way to protect my pregnant self and my 2 year old daughter.

I don't carry a gun and don't want to carry a gun. My SO has a license to carry and doesn't lol he keeps his weapon at home to protect the household.
