Is my doctor wrong?

Question

I just went and finally had a pregnancy test done at the clinic and they told me based on my last period I'm exactly 9 weeks. If I go by the exact day my husband and I had sex when I ovulated I'm only 7 weeks 6 days. Is my date more accurate since I know the exact day or is the doctors more accurate? I can't get in for an ultrasound until May 3rd or I would just wait to see what the baby measures.

If you use the date you concieved you add two weeks on. Some women have longer cycles so the lmp isn't accurate for everyone.

They generally date a pregnancy based on the first day of your last period - counting that way pregnancies average 40 weeks. The first two if those weeks is usually before conception - so the baby is two weeks younger than the 'age' of the pregnancy.

They do last period and 28 day cycles. Most women are pregnant for 280 days counting from the last period. You can calculate your due date by using the 1st day of your last period, go back three months and add 7 days. For me I have longer cycles and I have the benefit of having a child already so I know my baby will be born later than expected. Last pregnancy I was pregnant for 286 days from my last period.

I used the date of my last period and conception, but I have long cycles and never realized what a difference it makes. We thought we were 8wks when we had our first ultrasound. Turned out I was only 6.5 weeks. Huge difference!
