Gender of baby

I'm going on the 27th of this month to find out the sex of my baby! I have been reading that the earliest you can find out via ultrasound is 17 weeks! I will be only 16. My doctor seems to think she will be able to tell by then. I'm worried that it's to early. Thought? How early can you tell?
