Scheduled c section question????

I am terrified of being cut open while I am awake and alert. An RN at the hospital (while I was doing the tour) said they can't give you anything to relax you bc it could affect the baby. They have to give you SOMETHING right?! I just feel like I'll completely freak out. I'm already an extremely anxious person. If they'd let me I'd be knocked out. Has anyone had a c section before and been given something?

My first was a emergency CS. Once they gave me the epidural everything was peachy just tugs in your midsection. Honestly contractions were the worst. Now I have a scheduled CS upcoming so the only thing I'm concerned about is recovery afterwards.

I had my epidural for my emergency c-section nine years ago and my baby was and is fine.  I also had an epidural with my vaginal deliveries.  For the C-section yes you're awake but you'll basically feel movement and pressure it's the recovery that sucks not the actual procedure.

I will start by saying I am also a very anxious person and had the same fears as you, however it truly was not half as bad as I thought it would be. The best advice I can give is just focus on your breathing and the fact that you are about to finally meet your baby! I promise it will be over before you know it and you'll be in your recovery room snuggling! Second, they told me as soon as the baby was out they could give me something to calm me down if needed. The baby is out within the first 5-10 min of surgery so if you do feel you need something you only have to go a little bit before they should be able to give it to you. You got this momma!!

For my emergency c section I felt tugging, this was because of the epidural I had recieved was for me to still know when to push for contractions. With My 2nd And 3rd Scheduled C sections I felt nothing Of what they were Doing. I was completely numb from my lower half and still awake.

They can give you some medication to help you relax as soon as the baby is out. But the nurse is right, anything that relaxes you will do the same to the baby. Which may affect the baby's breathing and transition to the outside.

With my first I had a c-section and am expecting another with my 2nd. I had super anxiety to the point where I was like getting a rash . Unfortunately the don't give you anything but as soon as they put the epidural you will relax because of that medication . I promise it's not as bad as it seems . You CAN do this! When you see your baby you'll realize that going through your nerves was all worth it.
