How dirty does the diaper cover get?

Question

I was hoping I could do it in a public washer and do the prefolds in a bucket at home. Not pregnant yet, just trying to do some research. Thanks.

My son has solid poops and so is contained very well the pee is on the inserts. I just wipe the PUL liner down and use again. I have an extra cover in case any poop or pee gets onto the  fabric around the edge. It rarely happens. He had really sticky runny poop for a month I just used disposable then as I was just not dealing with it in a cloth diaper (not hard just a lot of other stuff going on to at home)

It depends on what type of covers you get, and what diapers you use. When mine were newborn I used prefolds with a cover that had Velcro in front (bumpkins I believe was the cover brand). The prefolds hold EVERYTHING in, we never had blow outs and I was able to use the cover a few times over. If poop did get on them, I was able to rinse in the sink and let it dry. I would wash them out with water every few changes in case any urine was on them, and wash in the machine when needed. It was very rare that I had a pool covered diaper cover to deal with. Youcl can always rinse or wipe a diaprr cover off of it is extremely dirty...thrn wash accordingly.
