How far/close is your baby's nursery from your room?

I ask this because I have a 2 story town home with a basement. During my pregnancy, we made our room the basement and on the top floor (2 up) our 4 year old, baby, and my mom are up there. Well our daughter was born 5 weeks early and we temporarily switched rooms with my mom. I have now adjusted to being upstairs close to our daughters and I don't feel comfortable moving back to the basement and leaving our baby up there. Granted my mom is up there, but she doesn't hear well at all and that's not her responsibility. We have a monitor, but I am still uncomfortable. My husband is mad with me because he wants to keep our room in the basement, but I do not. Am I being silly? How close are you all to your babies?

We live in a mobile home, so baby's room is right down the hall just past the bathroom. There is no door on her room and ours is always kept open. I will be able to hear her anywhere in the house but still thinking about getting a baby monitor for if she's asleep inside and I'm outside though.

My daughter's room is on the other side of the house from mine but it's only a one story. It's nice though because I don't have to worry about waking her up with the noise I make in the kitchen and living room.

I am across the hall from my son's room and right next to his room is my daughter's room. I dk that I could be a floor away from my kids let alone 2 floors. My fear would be something happening and not being able to get 2 floors up to get to the kids in an emergency.  Also I wouldn't want to go 2 floors to do midnight and 3  am feedings. Ultimately whatever works for you is good. Does hubby have reasons why he wants the basement?

My home has all 3 rooms at one end of the house same floor (it's a condo) I would want to have baby close to me for the first while as I nurse and don't want to be climbing stairs. I do have a video monitor so I would not mind being in the basement since another adult is up there. If there was a big emergency then they would most likely be up. Everything else I could handle.
