When do men become dads

Question

I keep getting asked if I'm a dad yet (I assume they're really asking if the baby is here yet). I always respond yes because I feel like I've been in dad mode since we started planning. When do dads become dads?

I do believe once a women is pregnant, she is a mother.. so it would only be right to say Once a man gets a women pregnant, he is a father.. but "father" and "dad" have different meanings to a women.. i believe you are a dad, when you begin doing the responsibilities of a dad.. be sure your baby is healthy, and mom is taken care of.. 
If you are doing what you're supposed to be doing as your women is pregnant, you are a dad to that baby...

I think it's about your own mentality. Not all guys take on the dad roll right away. But that doesn't mean you are wrong for already being in that mentality. Good for you!

Everyone is different, my husband became a dad the moment we found out I was pregnant. 
He's super involved in every aspect of my pregnancy. He kisses our son (my belly ) every morning before leaving to work and every night before going to sleep . He picked his name and is already researching all the activities he can do with him once he's born .

I would say once positive pregnancy test and you will always be a father, no matter what. But some men who are father's don't act like it. They don't step up. They step back and let another man become "daddy." My mom was adopted by her grandparents and I'm my eyes those were her parents, but her bio mother and father are still alive and even though they didn't take care of her, they still the birth parents.

Depends. Some men make a child but there never dads, just fathers. I think when your SO is pregnant and you make an intentional effort with her and the baby, you're a dad.

The biological "father" of my first 2 still isn't a dad in my eyes. And there 8 & 5. Its when you step up and decide to put a child's life in your hands. My husband has been a dad for 6 years. Even tho I'm 24 weeks pregnant with his first biological. I think its when you mentally decide that you are going to do everything you can for a child. Then your a dad. If that mentality comes the second you see two lines then your a dad during pregnancy.
