Difference midwife /doula?

Question

It's my second child but first was born in Germany. What is the difference between doula and midwife? Was thinking not hiring somebody since I have help before and after delivery. Just curious... might change my mind?!

Firstly, there are two types of midwives. A lay midwife or a community midwife. They are more centered on home births. They have medical knowledge but they typically aren't allowed to deliver in a hospital setting. Then there is the certified nurse midwife, who has an equivalent to a Masters in labor and delivery. They are allowed to practice in the hospital setting and typically work along side OBGYNs. 
A doula is going to be your advocate. They shouldn't step in medically speaking, but are there to help you with your birthing experience.

I might be wrong, but I don't believe doulas deliver the baby. They are more of a birth coach or support person.

A midwife is a health care provider while a doula is more of a childbirth coach. You might choose to have a midwife instead of an OB for prenatal care and to deliver your baby — midwives can deliver babies in hospitals, birthing centers or even in your home.

A midwife is a medical care provider before, during, and after childbirth. A doula is a woman who provides physical and emotional support before, during, and after childbirth. They are not the same thing!! I would research them a little more if you are confused.
