Smoking around preemie
First of all, I'm not wanting to pick any fights- just asking for overall opinions. My son was a preemie, born at 30w. He was on a ventilator for a few days, cpap for over a month. He had severely underdeveloped lungs and struggles to breathe. He is now 7 months old, and has done well thanks to all te help he's gotten! He did spend 9 weeks in the NICU.
In May, my son and I are flying back home for my sisters graduation . Now I've already had a huge argument with my mother regarding this. My sons neonatologist said he should not be around smoke or those who smoke unless they shower and change (said his lungs are still developing since he was a preemie), and that it could cause more issues if he is exposed to it. So. We will be around a lot of family seeing him for the first time. Ive already talked to my mom as she is a chain smoker- and while unhappy at least she knows my stance. What is a polite way to bring this up at the party if family members want to hold him? I should say I unwilling to compromise until he is older with the changing/showering before you hold him.
