Baby shower - UK

My mother-in-law/sister-in-law want to organise a baby shower for our baby. This is not something I really want to have - I don't really know if it's the done thing now in the UK like it is in the US but it just seems a bit - I don't know! I guess I'm just not keen! A lot of attention and guests feeling obliged to buy baby a present. Anyone UK mums had/having one of these?
