First time using pressed

We are using preseed for the first time this cycle. I'm in my fertile time now. Last night we used it but didn't insert it like the directions said. I put it on him and climbed in. Lol It seems like a lot of lube to use. Anyone who has used this with success and is willing to share how you did it? Plus, how do you incorporate using it with it being weird? It's the applicator that gets me.
