Best Mosquito spray??? Scared about zika

Hey everyone, 
Any of you still thinking about the mosquito virus?
I live in Texas, here it's been raining like crazy since last week and now that it's kinda drying I can see more and more mosquitos. I use repellant but am not sure if all those chemicals are safe to use ever day. 
The honest company has one that is natural, how many of you guys have used it? Or what are you using? I'm due in August so I will be pregnancy all these hot months.

I wish people would stop spreading misinformation!!! Yes, the mosquitos that spread Zika ARE here in the U.S.!!! No, there aren't any reported locally-acquired cases in the states YET. That doesn't mean it's for sure not here yet, just that there are no REPORTED cases yet. Experts say it is expected to be locally transmitted here by late spring or early summer. So yes, you should prepare!! Please don't tell people it's nothing to worry about. Don't obsess but do take precautions! Prevention is important, because chances are it will be here soon. I know people have their hearts in the right place when they say no, it's fine, don't worry about it. But in this case, ignorance is NOT bliss.

The CDC says this isn't your normal mosquito. This is the Aedes mosquito and it lives in hardier conditions and can withstand some natural repellents.

There will be people who say not to worry but, better safe than sorry, am I right? I live near Florida and will be spending a lot of family time in middle to South Florida come summer whilst being in my third trimester. Zika is something I've had to think about.

That said, I've done some research. Although most women prefer all natural ingredients (don't fall for Honest Co -- they've been sued many times over misleading customers) all natural doesn't last very long in effectiveness. You would have to reapply at least every hour and even then, some mosquitoes in a test group weren't even phased by it.

Looking at Consumer Reports reviews the best all natural is Repel Lemon Eucalyptus (I've seen it at Target). Spray it only on exposed skin AND your clothing at least every 90 mins.

It's also safe to use DEET. Just stay under the 30% DEET concentration marker on the bottle.

Also look for the EPA approved marker on the bottle, too.

Zika isn't spreading locally in the states rn so there's no need to worry about contracting the virus. As far as spray goes- I used cedarwood essential oil on myself and my family (including pets). We live in a mosquito-heavy area and hike/camp frequently and we have noticed a SIGNIFICANT difference since we started using it.

I hear ya. I'm in Louisiana and it's definitely on my mind. I know it's not here yet, but it will be. I'm (selfishly) hoping it doesn't hit until after little man is here though. I love being outside and hiking, but my plan is to spend most of my time indoors this summer. I can enjoy the outdoors next year. :) As for bug spray/Deet, when I asked my doctor she said their are some risks associated but the risk of contracting Zika is a bigger concern.

I actually went to central America when I was 13 weeks, and I bought this really good clothing treatment spray. I got it on amazon. It's made by sawyer and comes in a spray can. It's a permetherin spray. I used that a regular off spray for 2 weeks while I was there ans never got bit, which is a miracle because I'm like a magnet for mosquitos.

Peppermint, spearmint, or citronella works great. You can get a diffuser and diffuse the oils around you (if at home)  or rub the leaves on your body...

I've heard good things about the Honest company one, although I've never tried it. One thing to remember though is that the Zola virus is most serious during early pregnancy, so although we should all definitely take precautions, even if one of us due in August ended up getting it, our babies would probably be okay since we're far enough along.
