What compares to Alimentum formula?

Question

So I currently breastfeed (only have one working breast) so I have had to supplement with formula. DD was just diganosed with silent reflux and so I was told to switch her formula that I use to supplement with to the Alimentum? It's so expensive!

Now after reading the can, it just states that it's for food allergies and colic? The dr said that this would work for reflux? She doesn't throw up (which is what silent reflux is)!

Is there anything like alimentum that is cost effective or is there something else that o should be trying that isn't as expensive?!

It's because babies with silent reflux generally have an intolerance to cow's milk proteins, and those that do have that intolerance are also more likely to be sensitive to soy. So this suggestion makes perfect sense. I have a LO with silent reflux so this is my life right now. Alimentum and Nutramagin have those proteins broken down extremely small and most babies with soy or dairy intolerance do well with this formulas.

I would NOT try the AR formula without talking to the pediatrician. It's an entirely different product.

Alimentum is very similar to similac sensitive. Actually my son has severe reflux (throwing up 6-8 times daily) did better on sensitive than alimentum, but wic doesn't cover it. So for now alimentum it is but if it were my choice similac sensitive it would be.

My son is on alimentum. We use the ready to feed and he drinks about one jug a day 🙈 it's so expensive and killing us but it agrees with his belly and has helped his reflux. The rtf is thicker/heavier than the powder mix so it keeps it in his belly. My dr said I can try the powder again in a few months when his digestive system matures a little. The rtf alimentum is different than the powder though, the powder has corn in it and the rtf doesn't so some babies do better on it? Just what I've heard from a reflux moms page on fb! Try similac spit up! My dd has SR too. It worked like magic ! We did alimentum since she was born but it is expensive and baby was still cranky. We only use RTF.

That's odd he would say go straight to alimentum...it's for babies allergic to milk and soy. You can get like enfamil AR for reflux. It's normal price.

Nutramigen is similar and slightly less expensive. Those are the only two I know of for protein intolerance.
