How long is long enough to start dating again?

I broke up with my boyfriend last weekend, we were only together for 7 months. I was wondering if it's too early to get back into the dating scene.

I was told when you don't cry anymore. When you can think about him and not cry, that's when you're over him and that's when you're ready to start dating again. It's not good to get into a relationship when you're not over your ex and honestly it was the best advice.
