Late period?

So I have the IUD the copper one, my period is now several days late, but I took a pregnancy test and its negative. 
So is my cycle just off? Has anyone else had this problem? It's non hormonal so it shouldn't effect my period.

I had the same exact thing happen last week. I've had the paraguard IUD for about 3 months now and I was 4 days late. It scared me and I took a test, too. It was negative so I called my OBGYN and she said this was normal with IUDs. Even though it's non-hormonal, you're still putting a foreign substance in your body. Copper is going to have an affect on you, too. It will mess with you period for a while. One way you can keep reassureing yourself that you're not pregnant is to feel around the opening of your cervix for the strings. If you can feel the strings, than rest assured that the IUD is still up there doing its job!

When I got my copper IUD it took a solid year for my periods to go back to anything remotely normal. I've had it for nearly 3 years now and it still is way off sometimes. IUD's are one of the most effective birth control so don't stress yourself out. IUD's do mess with your cycle a lot.
