Is he in the wrong?

So around 3am my SO woke up crying in horrible pain so I drove him to the ER. His legs were swollen and full of fluid, they had to do tons of tests and draw fluid from his joints which is incredibly painful. I've never seen him so sick or hurting in the 6 years we have been together. He had to call into work because the testing didn't end until 8am and he worked out of town at 830. His dad helped him get the job and both of his parents called and sent nasty texts saying that he can't just let this rule his life and that even if he is in pain he needs to go to work because it looks bad on his dad. I'm upset because he feels guilty, even though the hospital is making him stay overnight again because the swelling is so bad and they want to make sure it doesn't worsen. I understand his dad's predicament but he is a good worker and this is the first day he has called in.
