Well, our surprise baby decided he didn't want to wait until May 26th, and actually preferred celebrating Mother's Day. We were so convinced it was a girl that we are now scrambling for boys names. I woke up at 1:30 on Saturday morning and just felt funny. I got up, made myself some toast and tried to read my book on the couch to go back to sleep. Around 2:30 or so, I couldn't lay down anymore and started pacing the house. I wasn't sure if they were contractions, but started timing them anyway. They stayed irregular, between 3 and 5 minutes, until about 4 am, when they were down to about 2 minutes apart, and I was starting to have bloody discharge. Called the doctor and he told me to wait it out and he would call back at 7 am. 6:30 am rolled around, and I told my husband we needed to go to the hospital, as the bleeding had increased and the contractions were picking up. When they checked me in, I was already 6 centimeters dilated, and 100% effaced. I could walk through contractions, even though they were picking up, which really helped. The doctor came in around 9 and broke my water, which made the contractions really pick up. The only problem was the doctor suspected that with my amniotic fluid, that there may have been an infection in my uterus and that the baby may be sick. So we kept laboring! I was at eight centimeters when the pain moved to my lower back and there was no way I could go on with labor, without some help. And I am so glad I did! I was able to get to those last two centimeters, starting pushing a bit after 12 and our little boy was born at 2:09. Sadly, I haven't been able to spend a lot of time with him, because he is still in the nursery, and will be for five days. But I am over the moon, and love our little monkey man so much!
