Tampon going in sideways??

So I've been using tampons now for about 4 months and I have never had a problem with them. All of the sudden during my period this month, my tampon won't go in straight? The applicator goes in straight but when I push the plunger it always goes in to the left side. I've tried putting it in at different angles, but it always seems to hit something as if my vagina is sideways. I just put one in recently and it hurt when it hit the side. What could be wrong other than putting it in at the wrong angle?
