When are you taking your baby out in public?

Question

Hubby and I are debating when to take our son to public places (like church) where multiple people will want to hold him, kiss him, etc. The pediatrician at the hospital said 2 months!! I was shocked. I've heard other numbers from other people... What are you ladies doing with your new little ones? Any input on rules for when visitors come by (wash hands, no kissing, etc.) would be appreciated too!

We have older kids so just staying home is not an option. At church though, I just told people, look, please don't touch right now. They were ok with it, most of them understand and the ones who don't can just get over it.

We took him out right away. Mainly because we had to go to dr and hospital to sign birth cert. But I would have taken him out anyways and I'm a FTM. It's unrealsitic to stay cramped up inside for 2 months, well for me anyways. Was nice to be out and around. And he's a month now with no signs of sickness!

We went to church at exactly 1 week lol 
Kept her in the car seat and she slept the entire time.  I just fed her right before. No one touched her though.

I took her out grocery shopping at 1 week old...I cover her in the car seat and nicely but firmly let people know they cant touch her....I've taken her out a handful of times and just don't let people touch her,  I bring hand sanitizer with me as well

We started taking our 6 week old out at 3 days. We try to take her somewhere almost every day. She has always loved the car and her stroller, and has never cried while we've been out unless she was hungry. We pretty much just live our lives, and she's adapted to it. We feel like this will make taking her out easier when she's older. However we never take her places where people will be in her face and never too close to other kids. We're waiting for her shots for that. But yeah, out to eat, shopping, to run errands, even an outdoor festival with live music. Our pediatrician said all of it is fine unless there's a pollen or smog alert.

We didn't go to church until 2.5 months because our baby was born during flu season and the sharing of the peace and everyone with colds then shaking hands and touching her was something we didn't want. Everyone understood.

The 2 month thing is impossible if you have older kids who are involved in things, which I do. I stayed home the first few days, then our fridge went out and had no choice to go out and buy one then by 8 days old I had to take my oldest to her dance classes that week, and my sons baseball games etc bc hubby went back to work so he was not able to do it all. I would say if you can do 2 weeks that is more resonable. But they say 2 months bc that is when they get they're first vaccines.

We went places pretty much right away.  One thing I did notice is that if you wear the baby, most people will respect your personal space and not touch the worn baby, so that may be an option if you need to go somewhere.

We will be going on an airplane across the country when baby is 2-4 weeks old. I will not be allowing anyone to touch him/her though.

I take my son places - mainly just shopping or out to eat. I wear him, though. People are less inclined to touch him because like someone else mentioned, personal space. I do let people look if they want because some are genuinely curious about baby wearing. We went out yesterday evening and someone asked "is that a real baby in there?!" 😂 but no one has tried to touch him.

I also take probiotics and I do breastfeed so that helps his immunity a tad bit. And I give him a bath after outings, too.
