Very swollen after sex

I just started having sex with my boyfriend. I'm on birth control and we're both clean, but we don't use condoms because they really bother him. Every time we've had intercourse my vagina has gotten really swollen afterwards and stays that way for a day or two. Is this because my body's not used to it yet or something else?
