People with a disability should still have to work?

Question

I seen this article on Facebook ( absolutely love the meaning behind it and how everyone was kind and understanding ) but I've also seen comments about how this shows that anyone with a disability that isn't "life threatning" shouldn't get a disability check and that they should be made to work. Do you agree ? Are there certain disabilitys that should still be forced to work?

Well it is a nice story, and it's impressive that he works in a customer service job. My cousin has seizures and no one will hire her. So I think employers should be more open to hiring people with disabilities but we shouldn't force them to work if they don't feel like they can. It's hard to pick and choose which people are capable and which aren't.

I get that this is meant to be nice, but I'd be irritated if someone stealth took my picture and put it up as some sort of pseudo inspirational message.  It's just not cool.

Some people with disabilities are able to work, some are not. My own father was totally Deaf and worked his entire life except for a temporary disability leave when he first lost his hearing. That doesn't mean everyone's circumstances are the same.

If you can work, you should work. My MIL accepts disability checks and sits on her ass doing absolutely nothing but she is just abusing the system! She can see, hear, drive, walk, talk, etc just like anyone else. She is just fucking lazy. She is addicted to pills and the checks are just feeding her addiction. Depending on your disability, you should be working. My husband uncle has cerebral palsy and still works! My mother has a muscle deteriorating disease and still works.

I love the story. I believe it depends on how much of a disability a person has. For instance I have lupus and it can make be have disabilities at times. But I still work. However other people are not able to. It's person dependent

I am on disability myself, and I do work part time. If they can without it negatively effecting their health and the resources they need I don't see why not. 
It's not like disability is much of a free pass. I get 597 a month, if I didn't work and have a spouse I wouldn't be able to afford living independently, but I also have to pay close attention to how much I make or I'll get penalized.

I was an aide in a workshop for mentally handicapped and disabled people.. They all did a kick ass job everyday. No excuse not to work.. Js.

Wouldn't they lose their checks if they got too many hours? Yes if they work full time they would lose the benefits including their medical care

I'm disabled. I spend most my time in a wheelchair and I commute over 70 miles to my job, because I love it. I still receive some help from the government because I qualify, and it helps

It's up to the employer really. Not all disabilities are the same for everyone. No matter what it is.
