Periods, birth control, weight gain

Hi ladies! I'm thinking about going on birth control, but I'm scared to because the last time I tried it I bled for over a month and a half straight. Is there any form of birth control that won't do that? Also I don't need one that has a side effect of weight gain considering I'm getting married in less than 5 months and need to fit into my wedding gown. Anyone mind me about asking your experiences?
