Fetal heart rate monitors... Safe? Useful?

Question

What do you all think about the at home fetal heart rate monitors? I have an anterior placenta so I've heard I won't feel movement as easily. Also I will be traveling out of the country in between appointments this summer and I feel like having a monitor could put my mind at ease. Do they work? Are they safe for baby? What do you think?

I want to also add I'm carrying my rainbow and my ob said if it makes me feel at ease it was ok and I should .. I also have an anterior placenta and not once have I not been able to find her heart beat now if it's hard to detect I can always hear the echo of her it's pretty detectable if it's in the 120's it's mostly ur hb or the swoosh of the placenta ...

I have a sonoline b .  I use plain aloe .. I wouldn't use everyday but it's fine

I use mine once per week on the weeks I don't have an appointment to keep my mind at ease :) I just try not to overuse it!

I ordered one on Amazon today-- can't wait to get it on Friday. My SO hasn't been able to make it to any of my appointments because he travels for work during the week so this will give him an opportunity to hear our little guy and me reassurance on days when I'm not feeling very pregnant

My midwife said it is totally safe. I listen everyday as it makes my heart happy. She says totally safe and nothing to worry about!

Yes they r safe if used for short periods of time ..but if ur placenta is anterior u might hv a tough time differentiating the woosh of the placenta from the ticking of the heart..which might add to stress rather than relieve it..

I have a high risk OB and he says it's perfectly safe.
