Brown spotting day before AF

Hi ladies, so earlier today I've noticed I was having brown spotting and AF is due tomorrow. I've had most of the symptoms for a BFP, but had a BFN about an hour ago. I've had no spotting up till now and very mild unusual cramps, so I'm pretty confused. Thanks for your help!
