How long?

How long will they give you to try to be diet controlled before they start you on medication? I'm 30 weeks with a follow up at 33. I have to report my numbers to them weekly as well.  I just started monitoring my numbers 2 days ago and they are always too high, especially my fasting numbers.

They're giving me as long as needed. I have to turn in numbers every week and as long as most are good, they keep me off medication.

I was put on medication for my fasting number less than a week after starting the diet. Fasting number isn't affected by diet like the meal numbers, so in order to regulate my insulin overnight, that started right away. Honestly taking the insulin shots aren't too bad, you definitely get used to it!

Update: they gave me a week with diet.  They started me on 2.5 MG of glyburide at bedtime that I was on for three days and all three days my sugars dropped drastically at night and I had hypoglycemia all three nights.  They started me on 8 units of humilin n at bedtime to help with my fasting numbers and 6 units of humalog before meals.  They had me report my numbers 3 days later and upped my dosage to 10 units at bedtime and 8 units at lunch.  I also start twice weekly visits this week.

Actually it really depends. My fasting numbers are always high but 72-108 is the range they have given me for fasting numbers as the non-medicated range for GD, even though a normal pregnancy is supposed to be under 96. I am based in Hong Kong and this seems to be the standard here. Best you ask your doctor what the parameters of prescribing medication are for someone with high fasting numbers - as in what range to exceed and for how long before they prescribe.

I went 9 days with trying diet only, then my nurse asked if I was willing to go on insulin or if I wanted to try longer with the diet... But I was so stressed out because I couldn't keep my numbers consistent and level that I opted for the insulin. My sugar levels still seem to go haywire if I have any carbs at all.

As long as mine stay in the normal range and are under 120 no meds for me. My doctor knows I'd like to avoid it at all cost though

I was put on medication straight away. I had my test at 26wks and they told me by that point the placenta wouldn't be able to cope. Had metformin for 2wks before starting insulin which has gradually increased

I got two weeks but they were low after meals.  My fasting number were my only high numbers. Good luck!!
