baby clothes - how many?

so i'm starting to buy clothes for my baby, and i still don't know what to buy for the first month or so. 
first of all, i live in a tropical climate so august, when i'm due, will be crazy hot and humid, but we do have ACs in every room. 
what should i buy? sleeves? no sleeves, short or long sleeves? 
and how many of each?
and which size? i know i shouldn't buy too many things i newborn size, but i still don't get the sizes (here i can choose size 52, 59, 66 and so on).
i you were in my shoes, what would your shopping list have?

I'm with the other ladies - stick to onsies for the first few weeks, especially since they're "leaking" on them all the time! Zip-ups are easier than snaps for when you're changing diapers in the middle of the night! And you can treat yourself to one or two "dressier" outfits for when you want to go out and show him off! Lord knows everyone and their dog will want to meet him!

For the first 2 months I pretty much kept my baby in Onesies, I wanted her to be as comfortable as possible. And sleepers at night. She didn't like to be swaddled so I didn't want her to be cold.

You can buy a few things in various sizes. I wouldn't put baby on sleeves until it starts to get cooler. When babies are small, most are swaddled a lot and their body temperature will rise if they are too hot

My baby was born 7.1 lb and 20" and she stayed in NB size for 6 weeks or so. She was a spitter, too, so we usually ended up changing clothes after at least half of her feedings the first couple months. So, we used about 2-5 onesies per day, plus pjs. We had maybe a dozen or so onesies and would do laundry every couple days (we do cloth diapers, too, so we are no strangers to frequent laundering). I would have at least a couple long sleeve options on hand. Regardless of where you live, it's hard to match the heat and humidity of the womb.

You don't need a lot. Maybe 5-6 onsies/sleepers in various sizes. They grow out of things very quickly especially the first few months
