Breastfeeding and formula

I have been breastfeeding since birth. He is almost 2 weeks. I am getting tired from the feedings in the middle of the night. I was told to try formula at night. Has anyone had any luck with this.
If so what formula did you start with?

I would suggest similac for supplementation

I started doing this when she was 7 weeks and it definitely has helped her sleep through the night. I give her about half breast milk and half formula of a 3.5 ozbottle.  2 weeks might be a little soon to start supplementing bc you risk decreasing your supply. Mine has even gone down even though I do pump when I give her the nightly bottle. Pumps can't get as much milk as your baby can. In a few short weeks your baby might be sleeping 6-7 hours like mine did at 5 weeks! Hang in there mama!

Thanks. I am going to try and wait till a month. Hopefully I last. 2 weeks is just what my mom said she did with us (where I got the idea lol).

try to pump during the day after feedings until ur breasts are empty to help build milk supply and store so someone else can take a night feeding or two

I've been mixing breast milk with formula since day 2. The doctor says to pump when I feed formula to make sure supply stays up. I would pump and put in fridge and feed later. The formula keeps her full longer so better at night if you ask me. I am actually considering stopping breast feeding and going to formula only because it's too damn hard when baby spends 20-30 mins on boob and then is still hungry and wants formula too. I am going back to work full time in August and I can't imagine creating a stock pile of breast milk for when my baby is at day care. Don't feel bad about introducing formula.

Yes she takes the formula well and has no problem going back to the boob. I use regular newborn enfamil or similac. Using sample cans.

Did he or she take to the formula well? What formula do you use?

I'm still wondering which formula is best..

I do pump. Just don't have a lot at this point. I would wake up once during the night to pump to help with production.

Similac or Enfamil for Supplementing. I used either one. I started pumping at 3 weeks & gave my daughter formula--not true that it decreases milk supply. I was pumping 30-35oz/day from about week 4 until almost 4 months. WORK decreased my milk supply-within 2 weeks of returning to work I had an almost 10oz drop.I used formula to transition until I got an established milk supply. We did (and still do) breast milk during the day, formula at night. If you want sleep--I recommend it. It helped my daughter sleep through the night.

Instead pump before bed and refrigerate your breast milk. Some people have problems when using both formula and breast milk.

Yes I have used this one too, but the pediatrician said there was no real difference between this and the reg newborn and I've gotten so much of the regular newborn in samples

Do whatever you want. Don't listen to anyone who tells you no formula. It's perfectly fine if that's what you want. But if your goal is to reduce night feeds formula isn't going to help. Young babies still need to eat frequently and will wake to eat regardless of breast or formula.
