Only for mom who's boys are Circumcised?

So I've decided I want my son to be circumcised, because I'm religious. My question are

how was the process? what worked best for your sons recovery from the surgery? What products and so on? Did he get to go home the same day or did he have to stay in a hospital?

I'm a nursing student who just finished my OB rotation. I saw a two day old boy have his circ done and I'm glad I did because I was so scared about doing my own son. They used local anesthetic and a sugar water solution to keep him calm. Through the entire procedure (about 15 mins start to finish) he didn't cry a single bit. The doctor explained that, while the babies can feel pain, it doesn't register in his head like a grown man or child would think of it. For care, there is a Vaseline covered gauze for a day then you just keep him well-lubed until it heals. The lube/Vaseline is to ensure the or is doesn't stick to the diaper and rip fresh skin off. Healing should be about a week and he may be uncomfortable while peeing because it may tingle but it shouldn't be painful otherwise.

All of my boys are circumcised. All of them were done on the 2nd day, no complications, no drama. It will look swollen and very red and painful at first but it didn't seem to bother any of them at all. Blot clean very gently with a damp warm cloth when changing diaper, smear tip of penis liberally with Vaseline and a good glob across front of diaper too to prevent sticking, in a couple days a yellowish skin will start to form over the head, it looks gross and like it's dirty but it's healing so DO NOT try to wipe it off. Took less then a week to heal.

Ours was performed during the hospital stay (I had to have a c-section)- it was done the day after he was born. The product for healing was petroleum jelly with each diaper change for probably 5 days.... He looks great now. It didn't seem to bother him at all. Good luck!

We didn't use the Vaseline they gave us. We used aquaphor. It helps to heal it faster. After a couple of days you don't have to put the gauze on anymore put keep some of whatever you use to keep it moist on his penis just to make sure it doesn't stick to diaper but after about a week you Don't have to do that anymore just make sure you clean it really good after every diaper change until it's healed

I had a positive experience as well. He was born on 4/15, they did it the next day, and we went home the following day. Didn't seem to bother him one bit, and we just had to apply A&D ointment for maybe a week. It is very deep red the first few days but that's 100% normal. Hope this helps!

Both of my boys did great, the hospital gave us gauze and petroleum jelly we were to change it every diaper change for 3 days and that's it. Was simple enough for us I did it for 4 days just to be sure.

They can do it in the hospital or in the clinic. My son had his done in the hospital the day after he was born and we went home the next day. He had the plastic bell version where they wrap the foreskin around a plastic piece that is tied on and when the skin dies it just falls off. They other way it's done is with a metal piece that you wrap the foreskin around and then the doctor uses a scalpel and cut the foreskin off. I personally like that they did the plastic version on my son, but have been present during hundreds of the metal version and seen many babies sleep through the entire procedure. I would recommend you scheduling a meet and greet with the pediatrician to discuss the way they do it and answer any other questions you have.

Lots of vasaline! Doctor said you can't use too much. Just be aware that it won't let his diaper absorb as much you might have to change him more often if you don't want him to leak out of the diaper!

My first son had his done at 11 1/2 months, we had to wait because he wasa preemie and he had to be medically cleared before getting it done. They started an IV in the room with me and then after wheeled him back to the OR. They put him under and he was sleep for the whole thing, took about 45 mins total. By the time he came back out I was right next to him ao he could see me when he woke up. They gave him pain meds to take home. By day 7 I was able to soak him in a bath to help the banages loosen up.
Done at a pediatric hospital by a pediatric surgeon.

My second son (11 weeks old now) got circumcised the next day around 6 am (same say we were discharged.) He was the first one in line for the doctors to do the procedure on. The Dr. Came in and went over everything, answered questions and then took my little guy out the room into the sterile room they do the procedures in. It took about 30-35 minutes total. He said he barely cried when it was done and by the time the doctor brought him in he was sleep again. -Done at a military hospital.
