Why do alot of mothers say having a child will ruin your life??

I like to think of it this way: it ruins life as you know it. Then it's replaced with a completely new life with a whole new set of challenges and rewards.

Anyone that says it ruins your life was probably not ready to be a parent yet. It definitely changes your life, in so many ways you would never expect.

It doesn't ruin your life but it does change it dramatically. Most people say that to teens to scare them from having children young because when you are a teen mom, all of your freedom gets taken away. No more partying, no staying out late, no being selfish, no doing what YOU want. I don't think children ruin anyone's lives, in fact it actually saves some people's lives. But I do not agree with teens ttc because it DOES change your life dramatically

It's a hard thing to explain to someone who doesn't have a child.. 
Saying they "ruin your life" is very harsh. 
But your life as you know it, as a young independent woman with freedom to do as she pleases- yeah that ceases to exist the moment you have a child.. 
From the moment you conceive that baby - you live for them and only them, they affect every waking thought, you no longer have the freedom that you used to have- which for some women can be really hard to adjust to. 
You live & breathe motherhood.. You put yourself last, everything you want and need comes after your child..
So I suppose you could say that they do "ruin your life". Because when you have a child it's no longer "your life" anymore- it's all about them..
But I know that no mother I know would ever take it back, I don't know any mother who regrets it. 
Having a child opens up parts of you that you never knew existed, the love, pain, anxiety, joy is so consuming you wonder how you ever thought you were complete before having your child..

I think people who say that have negative feelings toward it. It doesn't ruin your life, but your life is not like it was before. Its more complicated with a baby, but not ruined. Life is what you make it, baby or not. I mean if you want to drink and smoke and do drugs for your life, then it would ruin that for you I suppose. But you can still do most of what you'd normally do, it's just a bit more complicated. Like you need to have support such as trusted babysitters if you ever want to leave the house alone (or with SO) ever again. Without that support I could see how people may feel like they can't do anything.

If someone says it'll ruin your life, then they don't understand what it truly means. When I got pregnant, my life actually just began. That's when I realized I actually do have something to live for

Because apparently they ruin your life. They need love and affection and stuff. You can't do stuff anymore. When in reality a baby would be a blessing in my eyes. The baby would be my life, and when the baby's older, I would do so much with him/her.

A child doesn't ruin anyone's life. That child doesn't ask to be conceived or born. I never did understand why people say that

It can temporarily ruin a teenagers plans for the next several yrs but I think as an adult it doesn't necessarily ruin much if you've already accomplished things such as finishing school,university,travelling,etc etc
