Cervix checks?

Are they suppose to be extremely painful? I was checked once at my doctors office cause they thought I was going into pre term labor and it didn't hurt at all it felt like a normal Pap smear and then lastnight I was at the hospital with Braxton hicks and they checked me and it hurt like a mother, I was in tears. She said I was closed but he was extremely low. Could that be why it hurt so bad? Or was she just doing it wrong?

Mine always hurts b/c my cervix is titled towards the back and they have to "dig" for it 😫

I remember it hurting when i was in active labor... The closer i got the more it hurt i think... I never made it to the appt when they were going to check me before labor... This time im almost 38 weeks so i will get checked next week... Hoping it wont hurt

I had an appointment yesterday, and my Dr  gave me the option of having my cervix checked. She said it's much less painful when you're actually in labor and that it probably wasn't worth it if I wasn't having regular contractions. I would have liked to know how things were progressing, but it didn't seem worth it to me.

The further along you get, the more swollen and sensitive everything is with increased blood flow, so that could contribute to the increased pain. It does also depend on the person checking you though. Some people are just gentler than others. That being said, mine haven't been painful at all so far this pregnancy. They weren't painful at all with my last one either except when I got to the hospital at 39 weeks after my water broke and I was in active labor... That one really hurt!

I'm 37w 3 and it hurt me pretty bad the last time and after speaking with my dr she said that she knows it's uncomfortable so she generally will be as gentle as she can be. However, she said that if she was hurting me then I would need to make sure to talk to whomever at the hospital before they check me because they usually don't think about it and will be rather quick and harsh when they check and it can be much more painful.

I'm 37 weeks today and, against my better judgement, I let the new midwife check me last week to confirm he is head down (even though he has been for almost 3 months and I was positive he was myself.)  She played the "we don't want a c section" card and made me doubt myself. I was pretty upset after the appointment. Anyway, not only did it hurt way more than I thought it should, I ended up bleeding all over the place.

I will be refusing all checks until 40 weeks and not a day sooner, it was not worth it to me.

The first time I had one it hurt but I was closed up, I had one yesterday and it wasn't as bad just uncomfortable and I was 1cm dialated

Only time it kind of hurt was when my cervix was high and posterior. Once it came down and anterior it's not bad.
