Fresh from the doctor

Amanda C

So a brief recap of my situation. We tfmr at 17 weeks on May 13. So we are 10 days post op right now.

I had some questions, and there are different answers everywhere I look, so I went into see my family doctor today.

Here are my questions and her answers, hope they help someone else get through this terrible and confusing time. Obviously you should listen to your own doctor, but this is what mine said (also remember that mine was a second trimester termination, NOT a first trimester miscarriage which physically is very different.)

1. How long until we can have sex?

4 weeks and after a physical check up. The reason is your cervix is open still and may have some trauma from the surgery. To avoid a potentially serious infection it is suggested you wait until after a physical exam and a doctor's go ahead.

2. Can I use tampons for my first period?

If it comes before your 4 week check up then definately no. We can revisit this question at the check up. Nothing in your vagina until after the 4 week check up. No hot tubs or baths either.

3. When can we start actively trying to conceive?

After your first period, about 2-3 months after the procedure most likely. That's when you should start tracking and"trying".

4. So between my 4 week check and the two month mark do we need to use condoms?

No

5. What if I were to get pregnant before the two month mark?

I would have no increased concerns for an early pregnancy. I don't think you would likely conceive that month but if you did I wouldn't be concerned for your health or babies health just because it happened sooner.

So that's what my doctor says, if it helps anyone else on here then I am glad I shared.
