Is this normal?

I'm a FTM and I went in for my 36+ weeks check up today to make sure everything is going well. This was the first time I've had a vaginal exam to check if the babies head down, etc.

Doc said everything is fine with the head facing down, 50% effaced and 1cm dilated, however I've been in a lot of pain and super emotional since my visit this morning. The doctor said I may see some spotting but didn't mention anything about pain.

I randomly start uncontrollably sobbing to the point where I can't breathe for no reason and my Cookie is killing me. It feels like someone shoved a stick up there and is wiggling it around. Baby has been moving a lot too.

Has anyone had similar pains after an exam or is this not normal?

It may just be coincidence as far as timing goes. I have been experiencing this "lightning crotch" for about two or three weeks now. It is your babies head against the cervix causing pressure and pain. It's also called "lightening", it's the thinning of the cervix, means babies getting ready to make his appearance to the world in the next couple weeks. Hope this helps, good luck momma :)
