Formula before bed?

I've been exclusively breastfeeding, but am exhaussted. My LO feeds for at least an hour, dozing off and on, every two hours. I'm exhausted. I've had a few family friends recommend giving him formula before bed to get him to sleep longer. Has anyone tried it?

We breastfeed after 8 am and stop at 8 pm... It gives my boobs a break and my husband can help me at night. We are having latching issues so I'm thankful for the break until I can see a lactation consultant. We use enfamil newborn formula

I did this at about 5 weeks with my first and it worked. I mixed it with pumped breastmilk. By 7 weeks she slept 6-7 hours a night. This way I knew she filled up at bedtime and formula is more filling.

I had to do this last night. She had been nursing for hours and still crying so I gave her formula. She crushed 4 ounces which is more than she's ever had at one time. She slept better than she does most nights. I think she was having a growth spurt.

My husband give our son a bottle of formula at bedtime since he was 3 weeks old (he's 5 weeks now) so I can get a little chunk of sleep. It has not made my LO sleep any longer than 2 hours at night just like when I breastfeed him. Maybe your SO can give your LO a bottle during one feeding so you can get a little extra sleep?

Ask your pediatrician for samples of the formula. Mine always has ton. 
Sometimes we mix the formula 1/2 and 1/2 with breast milk. It's easier in her tummy that way.

That's what we do. And my husband gives it to her. So I can go to bed after the feeding before that- usually between 7-8pm.  He stays up and feeds her formula at 9ish. Then she usually sleeps til 12 or 1. It was a game changer for us. I could finally get more than 45 min of sleep at a time.

I'm curious about this too. Though she'll sleep 2-3 hours when she first goes to bed, then she's up every hour. I can't take this not sleeping anymore. I'm going insane. :-/

What kind of formula is everyone using! I EBF too but want to try adding formula for growth spurts and when I'm out since I haven't built up a pumped supply yet. Does this interfere with reducing my milk supply?

We give a bottle (2oz) of formula at bedtime. Usually will put baby(5weeks old) to breast about an hour before. My hubby will burp and change his diaper while I get ready for bed, wash any bottles or pump parts that I need for the next day. I pump before I sleep. Then either I or my hubby will give the bottle and baby is out. This is usually around 9pm and baby will wake around 2-3 am, sometimes a little earlier. After that, it's every 2 hours.

The bedtime formula is usually the only formula baby gets for the day. I can give pumped breastmilk but I don't think he sleeps as hard or as long. But will try that again.

From my experience formula cut way down on feeding time but my baby still only sleeps 2 hours at a time. The occasional 3-4 hour nap has happened but all night she is up 2 hours like clockwork
